A 2 pin Jones plug is needed to connect the cell to the rest of the system and still be able to easily detach it for maintenance.
- Silicone Caulk
- Wood Glue and Screws
The best wire to get is the twisted black and red so you don’t mix up polarity
The wood you use will need to be painted since it will be outdoors for its life.
Use plexiglass to protect your solar cells
A diode ensures that your electricity will only flow from your solar cell to your battery and never in the opposite direction.

A solar panel is a device that converts the suns light into electricity. It is called a solar panel because it is a group of sun absorbing panels. The panels absorb the suns energy and send it to a power converter that makes it compatible for use on the appliances in your home. This picture adds the fact that some things can be powered straight off from the 12 volt battery bank. Most appliances you will be powering will be 230v and require the electricity to be inverted.
So really a solar panel system is a relativity simple concept to understand. You don’t need to be overly familiar with electricity to enjoy the benefits solar energy can offer you.
